As my wife gets older, she increasingly finds its difficult to overcome the inertia and drag of the standard vacuum cleaner. Does anyone know of a lightweight machine that incorporates some form of self-propulsion? There are dozens of manufacturers and hundreds of models, but so far I've failed to find a cleaner that matches these requirements. Thanks for any advice you are able to give.

I bought a GTech cordless eletronic sweeper from Ideal world (tv channel) It`s only a carpet sweeper but Iv`e never had the hoover out since. You take the handle off to do the stairs, they give you a fibre optic duster which fits onto the handle for hard to reach places. Light as a feather for carrying about. .If you have the shopping channels I think its on tonight as my daughter was trying to pinch mine. If not look on their site.
Just interested, do you have the same problem with the vacuum cleaner?
Yes I have. Also taking it from one room to another or up and down stairs.
Thats the one thanks Ethel, paid 39 for mine.
oldwoman I've a feeling that pmorley's question was directed at Joeloki, not at you.... :o)

There are reasons but I had thought that the purpose of the exercise was to obtain a relevant answer - not to account for the reason the question was asked. I had hoped for constructive answers to the question such as was given by Oldwoman.
