paying for rubbish by weight?

Our local council is microchipping our bins for household rubbish and will be charging us depending on the weight. Does this happen to anybody else and how much do you pay monthly? This is only a trial at the moment in Cambridgeshire.

Charging us via our Council Tax? Or as an addition? If it's an extra charge then I for one will be paying my Council Tax bill minus that charge!

I read about this in the paper a while back .So..I had a look at my wheelie bins and there is indeed a chip under the rims.
I think they are trialing pay by weight in several areas,not in mine at the moment, though I expect they will all soon jump on the bandwagon if the trials are a success.
I don't mind recycling and do my bit but would expect a reduction in my council tax if I had to pay by weight or I would dig said chip out of the bin and post it through the Town Hall letterbox.
They want you to recycle but are too fussy about what they will and won't take and don't even have the plant to deal with it in some areas.Cart before the horse if you ask me and then they wonder why people fly tip.

Philip Schofield was talking about that. I went out and had a look at our bin but there isn't anything fitted there yet. Bl**dy cheeck if you ask me.

We have just discovered that there are microchips on our recycling brown bins in our area, although according the Council it was cheaper to install them at the time of the production of the bins rather than after they had been delivered to every household. Although they are not operational at the moment as the Council do not have the necessary money for this, but we have been told that they will notify everyone before activating the chips. We were told this was to monitor how much waste is being recycled , so now I can see where this is leading

You can bet your sweet life that the "trial" will become a reality before we know it. And, apparently, as much as we all like the sound of removing the offending chip if we do we will be guilty of criminal damage as the bin belongs to the local council and therefore we will leave ourselves open to prosecution!!!

Bound to increase fly tipping etc. We live at the bottom of a cul-de-sac and our collection (still black bags) is Monday. From the Wednesday onwards people start leaving rubbish out on the corner at the bottom of the road. Fortunately it's not near our house but i'm amazed that no one seems to have complained to the council. It's been going on for years. Council won't collect certain items (non house waste) and they just leave the offending bags. Whoever put them there in the first place never pick them up and they just get left till some resident clears them up.

I think it is a good idea. People should only dispose of what they need to, if I have to pay for what I chuck , and council tax is reduced then I will be better off. (will put it in next doors bin)

Im presuming the more you recycle the less they charge?
Or is it the heavier your main household waste the more you pay? Sounds like something else to get heated up about really

Im pleased i havnt heard of any daft plans to charge according to weight up here.
