Hi, soon to have new carpet fitted, can anyone tell me if there is much difference between carpet underlays.

Is it really worth paying the extra and going for the medium grade underlay? Or should I save my money and simply go for the cheapest? They both look and feel the same to me the only difference is the price.

Thank you.

In my experience a good underlay enhances the effect and feel of your carpet. Get the best underlay that you can afford.
The really cheap underlay seems to break down after a few years IMHO. So you should buy underlay of a quality that reflects the quality of your carpet, so it lasts an appropriate period.

And I'd 2nd what janpot says - a good underlay can make your carpet feel better and last longer.
Hello There,
If Money is not the issue and you are buying a good class carpet do not Skimp on the Underlay, If you do then I think you will Regret it, When runnig a Carpet shop in the early 70s we used two sorts of Underlay , Duralay &
Tredaire and we never had any complaints. Today there will be others as good and some better the choice will be yours. Good Luck. ALLIGATOR
