Willow rust

A colleague has a 'salix caprea kilmarnock' ornamental willow in a large container on a balcony. Though I have not seen the plant, it has become infected with an orange 'rust' on about 20/25% of the leaves. I have advised her to cut off ALL leaves with any sign of rust and carefully remove top inch of soil which might contain spores. Then treat with a fungicide. Can anyone out there please comment on this and perhaps recommend a specific fungicide treatment. Thanks in advance for any replies

What you have advised looks good to, as long as the leaves and compost are desposed of carefully where the spores cant reinfect anything else.
A good preventative measure is to mulch and water well in dry periods.
I would recomend spraying with a fugicide containing :- bupirimate with triforine, mancozeb, penconazole or myclobutinanil. Good Luck Tbird+
