We are thinking of buying a house which has a 1 storey extension. If we brought the house we'd like to build a second storey on top. How do we check the footings to see if they are in place to build above? can this be done without too much disturbance?

Engage a Chartered Building Surveyor who will have one or two trial holes dug and then inspect the footings and the rest of the structure upwards and then report to you.
