We have just had a leaflet through the door to remind us that fireworks will be on sale Thurs 19th October. Does this mean we have to suffer fireworks for two and a bit weeks before Guy Fawkes night?

Yes, and probably for about a month afterwards as well!
Since 1st Jan 2005, with the introduction of The Fireworks Regulations 2004 (as amended) under The Fireworks Act 2003, licensed suppliers of fireworks can legally sell them all year round.

The sale of fireworks without a licence is permitted:

- 15 October to 10 November;
- December 26 to 31 December;
- the day of Chinese New Year and 3 days immediately before;
- the day of Diwali and 3 days immediately before.
well we're getting well and truely into the season now

Diwali October 21st
Eid October 24th
Halloween 31st October
Guyfawkes Night 5th November

So I'm actually surprised they won't have them on sale earlier
they started going off round here weeks ago but then we do have a firework shop a couple of miles down the road. My little dog goes bonkers & really distressed & personally I think they should only be allowed for organised displays but thats my opinion.

thelewisgang. That's exactly how I feel. My dogs are not too bad indoors but because you don't know when they are going to be let off, sometimes we are on a walk early in the evening and someone lets them off and they go beserk. They can't get home quick enough. And I expect there will be the usual nutcases who think it's great to have fun with some poor animal. It makes me feel depressed thinking about it. Perhaps it will be rained off. You can always hope.
crickey be pleased for small mercies it was only a couple of years ago that the kids went back to school in september that they started going off till bonfire night !!
by the way my son Owen says remember remember the 6TH of NOVEMBER as it's his birthday !!!!!!!!
