Strange behaviour of fluorescent light

At about 4 o'clock this morning I was awoken by a strange pulsating light in the bedroom, and realised that the main room light (one of those "folded up" fluorescent replacements for an ordinary bulb) was gradually lightening and darkening over a period of about 1.5 seconds. It never came to full brightness. Eventually, I switched on the light, and it came on normally, and when I turned it off, it displayed the usual after-glow, which gradually faded, and the pulsating stopped.

Does anyone have any theory as to the explanation?

this one stuped me i have to say. I really want to know this one.

a thory may be some small carges of elecriity may be being pased through

or mabye when you woke up your eyes where adusting to the light giving the effect of a pulseing light

i would like to see some more suggestions on this one

I'm not too sure of the composition of one of these bulbs, but every fluorescent tube needs a 'ballast' which is additional components to start the bulb up. It appears that this fairly basic circuitry has stored a charge.
