Shower pull cord

Is it possible to replace a pull cord on a ceiling switch for a shower? It is the type with an OFF indicator and light.
I have taken the cover off but there seems to be no way to get at the cord. Any help much appreciated.

I opened one of those a few years ago and bits whizzed past my ears so I gave up.
