Re-usable vacuum cleaner bags
6 Answers
Does anyone know a source for these - there was a firm that did this in the past and supplied me with one for our machine at the time but they have vanished. Usually these companies will provide bags for a large variety of makes and models, talor made. All advice gratefully received.

The availability of re-usable bags will be a major criterion for choice of replacement for the earlier machine (a "cylinder" type 27 years old and has as powerful suction as we could wish for) which has served us extremely well through what would be major abuse to modern machines (serious DIY including sucking up bucketfuls of plaster debris, etc.) but has now developed an illness which is likely terminal because it will be uneconomical to repair the fault (the issue of short modern lifespans and throw-away philosophy is another matter). You may not like this but we are not attracted to any Dyson models (any relation ?) even though they do not have bags at all (nice point - but they do not enjoy a good reputation for reliability, where will any of today's new Dysons be in 25 years time ?). If you know of anyone who can offer a range of re-usable bags then we will probably start by looking within that make/model range. Thank you for responding.

Thank you very much for that - I had already narrowed down to a few including a Henry. But there is a James also and I understand it can take a re-usable bag (available) which may be very useful in certain circumstances, plus it has a tool storage facility built in. Do you know anything about these, am I correct in thinking that it is in other respects the same machine. I had a quick look at the manufacturer's site but it was not immediately very informative, although I was in a hurry. Can I ask how reliable they are (total years in use of one machine - I believe they have been around for a good while) ? My impression is that it has an 1100W motor - is the suction good (1400-1800W is generally regarded as better) ?
