Is my grass drowning?
3 Answers
I had a new lawn put down in the summer, and we managed to keep it thriving despite the drought, now however, it is yellowing and generally looking dreadful, if you dare to walk on it, you not only risk breaking your neck as you slip on the mud, but it drags more of the grass out by the roots!. Apart from starting again, can anyone advise me what to do?

You need to airate the ground. This can be done with a garden fork. Stick it into the ground as deep as you can and a few inches apart across the lawn. This will help with the drainage. Pick a dry day to do this so that you do not compact the ground when wet.
Then keep off it until the spring. Early spring apply some sand to the surface. Rake it in. This will be taken down into the ground and begin to open up the soil to aid in drainage. Also apply a good spring fertiliser to revive the lawn. These are available at any garden centre.
