how do i fit a ceiling fan to a pendant light which has three cables coming thru the ceiling. there are four wires on the fan, red, blue, green, brown. there are nine from ceiling

Your only answer is to get an electrician. One who really knows his job. What you have got there is a situation where the ceiling rose has been used as a junction box into which other lights switched or fed from the same switch or cicuit have been connected. It is very dodgy and dangerous to have a go unless you have a means of sorting out which wires are live feeds and which are switched feeds.

If you have nine wires coming out of the ceiling get is someone who is competent to do the job.There are nine wires there because the ceiling rose has been used as a junction box (as they can be) and in addition to the switch conection there is the "ring" connection too. one of the wires will be permenantly live and atleast one more will be aswitched live. So you need someone who can sort them out, there are at least two different ways of indicating which is which. BE VERY CAREFUL
