Hi. I have a dyson DC08. The small one that collects animal hairs and is alledgedly anit-bacterial. I have just had to stop hoovering as it over heated, almost. I say this because I could smell something strange, realised what it was and turned it off. I then emptied the cylinder as I thought it maybe happened because of it being full. The heat came from the part of the hoover where the filtered air comes out. I'm about to try and clean the filter. Any other suggestions as it is relatively new.? I don't really fancy buying a new one. Thanks for listening.
P.S: The cable was fully extended and there was no kinks in it.

If it's fairly new it should be under warranty if there's any actual fault with it.

There are a few filters though; take out each of them and clean them. They tend to need cleaning every few months or so, but if you have pets this may be more frequent, especially if you've only recently got it.
Hoover is a brand name, it is actually called a vacuum.

So no such thing as a Dyson Hoover.

Like calling a car a Ford Vauxhall

to clean with a vacuum cleaner.
I'm fairly certain the smell has come from overheated dust on the motor.

Cleaning all the filters and emptying the dust cylinder should solve it.

*a vacuum is a space devoid of matter*
The DC08 model contains a filter which you will need to wash every six months or so, so I suspect that it was just clogged up. (My Dyson also stops working when the filters are blocked.)

New filters cost about 12 so it might be worth getting a spare so you can still use your machine whilst the filter is drying out.
Just search this site and you will find loads of posts from people who have got rid of their Dysons and would never buy one again .....
