venus flytrap care - How do i keep killing them?

I love venus flytraps but I keep killing hem! I dont just touch them to make them close for the hell of it because its cruel and kills the plant but I have no idea whats killing them.
does anyone haveany idea whats killing them or any advise on care for them?

For more on marking an answer as the "Best Answer", please visit our FAQ.sorry can't help, but just wanted to say that I have currently got my first venus flytrap and it is not looking very healthy, I too don't touch it to make it close and have instructed my teenage kids not to as well, but it is still looking very sickly. It says on my instructions to keep it standing in about 1cm of water at all time, but then the traps started to rot so I let the water dry out, although the compost is still very moist. I will be watching this thread with interest.
They like lots of sunshine, exposure to the elements, good drainage and very poor soil. The water in the dish is a good idea but it needs to be kept below the level of the bulb in the pot or it will rot, so it's worth having the plant in a tall container. Here's a link to a very useful site:-
