How much does a chimney sweep cost?

We have 2 chimneys, with gas fires underneath. Is it still important to keep them cleaned for gas fires? Grit comes down them onto the hearth when it rains. How much can I expect it to cost?

they are few and far between nowadays,but we found one in bedford a couple of yrs ago to do my mums house he charged us �28 so i suppose you could be looking at between �30/40 pounds now,have a look in yellow pages and get a quote over the phone
