hello vauny / you must be a politician as you did not answer the question ///// hello tonyted / thank you for your reply is this the cold resistance of the 1 kw element /
How do you get that, tonyted?
One kilowatt at 240 volts draws about 4 amps.
240 volts divided by 4 amps gives 60 ohms.

hello chakka35 / yes i agree but that would be the hot resistance what i want is the cold resistance which is the resistance of the element with no supply connected as i said i have no electric fire to measure the resistance of with my avo.can you oblige / thank you.
Question Author
hello / thanks to all you people out there who responded to my query but surely someone has access to a 1kw electric fire element if you have please put an ohmeter across it and tell me the reading if i find one amongst the people i know i will do so and post the answer /
Hi,
I am pretty certain that resistance changes with heat.
In answer to your original question, however, I have measured a 1KW wire wound element at room temperature and it was 60 ohms.
Hope this helps.

hello isaac / thank you for your answer / i would have thought that it would have been lower as i have worked out the hot resistance of the element by dividing volts by current and as an element takes about 4 amps at 240 volts this gives me a resistance of 60 ohms / thank you once again / logan.
Question Author
hello isaac and all you people out there / i now have all the info i require about 1kw element / as isaac has said the cold resistance on his element is 60 ohms / i have now discovered that the element is made from a material that changes little in resistance either hot or cold / the most common seems to be nichrome which is 80% nickel and 20% chromium and has a melting point of 2550c / as it gets hot it only increases in resistance a small amount / unlike the electric light bulb but that is another story / thanks to all / logan.
