Gipweed?
Anenome? Shurely shome mishtake? Anemone (correct form) sounds nothing like "an enemy"
On plant's what?

sorry robber 1 i can't find a plant called gipweed to the other's the clue's are cryptic as robber 1 has seen through the example i gave 'not a friend' the answer is' anenome' which when said sound's like 'an enemy' any other idea's please help
Hogweed?
Chinajan's right - anemone doesn't sound like "an enemy" - it sounds like "an emeny" - I have no idea what an "emeny" is.
Sorry about that STELLA. I do like gardening and some where at the back of my mind I still think of Gipweed. I have just done searches and no results are found. Anenome DOES sound like an enemy when used in clues for crosswords. This usage is common. Hogweed sounds good but does not meet the clue: pig turned round.
Hogsback (a fungus so i guess unwanted?) perhaps?
I was going to say 'gip-sa-feel-ya but I suppose the clue would be 'slightly' different..........
..and some fell on stony ground, Toglet.. Cheers.
Chinajan: No need to get sarcastic about this. As a crossword user, all I am saying, is that it is used in clues. I am fully aware that you are correct technically and I agree with you. The people who compile these clues however generally think that it "sounds like" so it is close enough to form an answer.
Perhaps ChrisPBacon will know - where are you?
GIP stands for Genetically Improved Plant, unwanted by most of us.....? I keep thinking about Pigface, the succulent plant. Somebody hurry up and get this, please.
Piggyback plant (Tolmiea menziesii ) ????
Robber1, you're still spelling "Anemone" incorrectly, to get the incorrect pronunciation! If you spell it right, you'll see that a crossword compiler (and I'm one of them ;) ) would never use that homonyn in the clue.
Sorry Toglet. It took me ages to catch on. I am not as thick as I now feel.
On the other hand, I might be.
My 'gips will feel you' gag didn't go down too well, sorry - but has anyone got it yet because it's driving me mad!
