I have recently run over the vacuum cleaner lead. The lead got 'sucked up' and now I have noticed that a section of the lead is showing the wires inside. Is it safe to use? I have taped over the exposed section but am a bit dubious about it.....

Hi foxy, were any of the wires damaged ? if they were you should cut the flex and put on a flex connector,if it was just the outer sheathing that was damaged it will be ok providing you have taped it properly, Ray
as long as you could only see the blue/brown/yellow+green sheaths, you'll be ok. If you could see any bare copper, you'll need to do some more substantial repairs like ray says
If the damage is fairly close to the plug, then you could cut off the offending part and reattach the plug. Otherwise, if it's in the state that ugly bob suggests, get someone who knows what they're doing to replace the flex for you. One of those cheap washing machine/vacuum cleaner parts places should be able to do it for you without too much expense.
