dvd rewriters

i have recently had my cd R/W replaced with a dvd R/W i can copy cds watch dvds and play CDs however i cannot seem to get it to record DVDS or put my photos on to a dvd please help!!! I have tried the nero programme to no avail i am not much good at this so please dont be to technical many thanks

have now purchased u lead many thanks I think you have answerd my question ithought it would work like cds on my home dvd player obviously i was running away with myself thanks for all your help
