My huge cherry tree is to be felled. Is there any real value in the wood?

I don't know the answer but you might like to look in Yellow Pages under furniture manufacturers, carpenters or craftsmen who could give you some advice. At various agricultural shows and Craft exhibitions there are often craftsmen who make wooden fruit bowls and other decorative articles and they may not find it easy to get the right quality of wood for their products. They might be willing to buy some of it from you. Perhaps if you tried Googling "Wood craftsmen + the name of your County, it might throw up some useful contacts.

This sawmill charges �18 per cubic foot for cherry wood green.

That is to say sawn to boards but not dried etc.

So they'd have to collect the tree and saw it all of which costs a certain amount.

I guess a lot depends on how big 'huge' is in your book - I assume it's not coming down because it's rotten.

Possibly worth phoning the odd timber mill if there are any near you - I doubt you'll be rich but you might get it taken away and something towards the cost of removal

Look for 'Greenwood turners' or Chair bodgers in your area, they make many things from cherry wood and most importantly chair legs, especially the winsor chair.
High wickombe, Bucks was once the center of the chair making industry in the UK but the repro chairs are still turned out by greenwood turners and amature enthusiasts up and down the country. Good Luck Tbird+
