Hi saaaudie, Camellias are beautiful arent they ?
I think the key word to remember is shelter shelter shelter, okay so thats 3 words but due to it's very early flowering in spring, it does need to have a position away from cold winds and frost to avoid damage to the flowers, planted among other shrubs or close to a south facing wall to give them protection would be ideal.
They dont like chalky soil but prefer it on the acid soil like Rhododendrons and azalias, so add some ericacious compost at planting time and a mulch of the same each spring.
Most will grow to about 6-8ft and do not require pruning other than removing dead/damaged branches etc in may.
They also take well to being grown in tubs which may be a good idea if you cant provide the acid conditions in the open ground. Good Luck Tbird+
