There is no such thing.

Some people swear by the 'new' style memory mattresses, but they don't suit everybody. They can be too warm and people with restless leg syndrome wake up exhausted.

I love my pocket sprung bed, but others don't like them because the mattresses have to be turned regularly.

Beds range from �100 to �5000 + - take your time to research the mattresses, the manufacturers and try out several beds in the shops before you decide.

I echo Ethel's' comments, buying a decent bed is worse than buying a car. You have to spend at least a third of your life sleeping and if you have a bad bed you are asking for trouble.

We spent over �1000 just on the mattress alone, that was a VI Spring, it came with a 30 days trial period but we found the bed so comfortable we decided to keep it. I believe it was money well invested as I am sure that it will last for a few years.

The actual bed itself is a wooden slatted Boxer from John Lewis, this has made a big difference to our comfort.

The choice must be yours and nobody else's.

the best bed I ever had was a water bed. It wasn't strictly a double but two singles side by side in the same frame. (You could set them to different temperatures.) I've never slept so comfortably. But it used to spring leaks - pinholes, just a trickle near the seams on the corners that left my feet damp in the morning. Only once every six months or so; but the problem of mopping up (you have to somehow lift up this huge bag of water) meant I eventually and regretfully replaced it.

My other half, though, never had any leak troubles, so maybe I am an unusually restless sleeper. If you don't toss and turn at night, it's worth thinking about.

keep away from millbrook. we have one and within a few weeks it looked worse than the one it replaced. i could'nt beleive it . what did they say ? ' we make them that way' what looking 10 yrs old.
