Laying Turf - Help/Hints/Suggesteions/Advice

I want a lawn in my back garden, I have a big dry muddy space, i'd say about 10" by 6", in my back garden and ideally want it transformed into a beautiful lawn. Historically the space has been pretty shaded, and nothing has really grown there, maybe a bit of moss here and there and some weeds, over the weekend we have attached the garden, cut everything back, and it now gets pleanty of light. I wanted to seed a lawn but my 3 cats will just dig it up, so I have to go for turf. What the best way to prepare the soil, hints on timing, best type of turf to buy, hints on laying, etc..
