How can I kill off some ugly trees without any one knowing?

How about under darkness, pulling them up, and then replacing them with some good-looking cardboard cut-outs of trees. It worked for me. Hope this helps.

Drill a hole about 8mm in diameter at a slightly downward angle, close to the ground, to about the middle of the trunk. Pour herbicide into the hole. Might have to repeat and refill a few times.

I would not dare to advise how to kill a tree without the fullest information concerning Tree Preservation Orders, bye-laws, it's physical condition, anenity value and so on. Why do you want to make this murder look like natural causes ?
Firstly, is there a Tree Preservation Order (TPO) on the tree ? Is it subject to local bye-law ? Is the tree mentioned in legal document appertaining to the property ?
Secondly, is it diseased, damaged or dangerous ? Even if it is, you cannot touch it if is subject to a TPO without the consent of the issuing authority.
Thirdly, "ugly trees" especially if they are of considerable size, may very well be regarded as having local amenity value. You could incure the enmity and wrath of neighbours if you harm it without good reason.
Apart from the above there are also aesthetic reasons why I would not want to be party to destroying beautiful trees. While I may be able to kill a tree in several ways that the amature would not be expected to detect, it is hardly likely that an amature would be able to do anything that an expert would desern. Nor is it possible to use more than sophisticated methods that would defy diagnsis by expert analysis and that is just what would could be involved ( and has often been) with trees deemed ugly by some.
'Slow Killing' is usually resorted to as a means of avoiding detection, and during such treatment trees can become very unpredictable and dangerous, with consequences more serious than the original problem. Be wise and find a solution to your problem in the correct manner, through the front door and not round the back.

Also, if the trees are in a Conservation Area you have to inform the local authority and seek permission before carrying out any works to them.
