Council Tax for annexe on house
5 Answers
Has anyone experience of this?
We are looking at larger homes for a possible move and have found one that we love. Its a 5 bed house but has a 1 bed annexe attached (it was perviously the garage). The annexe isnt whats drawn us to the house and we'd have no real use for it apart from perhaps when family visit occasionally.
The astate agents have said that the property is a band E and the annexe is a band A. Thats a heck of a lot of money to find each month considering we wouldnt be using it as 2 homes.
Does anyone know what happens in such a situation? Would we be able to get the annexe council tax canceled? If it were cancelled would the band E of the house increase?

Thank you for your reply. We had considered asking what the implication would be if we were to use as one property. I suppose we shall have to contact the relevent department at the council.
Bit unfair if no-one is living in it, as no-one is using schools, refuse etc that a lived in property would cost the council.
