Can anyone recommend something to clean the bottom plate of an iron.
My hubby, bless him, decided to do some ironing and has scorched/burnt the bottom of my iron.
I have tried scrubbing it with those green pads and washing up liquid to no avail.
The self clean button also does not seem to be helping.
So I really would appreciate some tips as I love my iron.

Try using steel wool or a brillo pad.
you can try this stuff....it smells a bit strong, but really works...you rub it on the hot iron and it melts like a wax candle would... then you wipe it off with an old cloth...if the burns are really bad you may need to do it a few times.

We've had success with an abrassive product on the market called 'Astonish'. It won't scratch the surface as wire wool could; unless you are able to get grade 0000 made by Liberon.
Still trying to be helpfull:-

Astonish is great for all surfaces; including glass: providing it's not etched, becauase you'd risk polishing it to a crystal clear see through surface.

Liberon wire wool, grade 0000, can also be used on all delicate surfaces, such as glass and polished wood. I'm a bit of a DIYer and know that it is really good for highly tarnished brass, prior to finishing off with Brasso; which of course you could try on your iron.

Keep up your shine.....Ron.
