slate tiles are dull and dont look clean
3 Answers
I have some tiles in the kitchen that I think are slate. They always look dull and horrible, never look clean, got no shine to them. my friend has some similar but hers are really shiny and they just came like that. When mine are wet when just been washed they look great. They look as though they need some sort of coating but i dont know , i need help on how to make them look like they do when wet. PLEASE help as its really annoying cause i clean them but never any point because dont look clean.

If you decide to try it - do it carefully and thoroughly, and don't overlap anywhere. I used washing-up sponges and put exactly the same amount of liquid on each time (by tipping the bottle up and back quickly and making a 'dot' of it, same amount of times) and did exactly the same amount of tiles with each 'load'. I really enjoyed doing it, don't know why!! It was so satisfying to look back at the floor looking lovely. It protects it too, and makes it easier to clean. One bottle was plenty, too.
If it helps anyone else, a friend of mine has done the same on quarry tiles - proper, expensive ones - and is just as pleased as I am!!
(Follow the instructions on the label for preparing area first. Did my floor when it was new and still perfectly clean.)

i seen on a diy show a guy using sunflower oil and it did give the slate a new lease of life but like all diy shows it just shows the place looking nice when the works done so i dont know how the floor would ware from day to day, would advise to try out maybe one slate to see what you think, good luck.
