Just laid a new lawn at the weekend and everything told me to keep it well watered.

I'm getting a little obsessed with watering it and wondered can I actually be doing harm by watering it too much?

Don't water it to the limit where water is standing on it. Really just by making sure it doesn't dry out is best. A good watering evey two days should be fine unless you're getting very hot weather
not sure if this was the right thing to do but it worked for me during the really hot period that we had. I just kept the sprinkler on it day and night for one and a half weeks and it seems great. I turned it down so that the water was never pooling on top like lafrancaise said :)
