Bonding water pipes

Hi all,
I have completely re-fitted the bathroom, repositioning walls, moving soil pipes and and substantially altering the layout of all fittings and fixtures. I have now got to bond all of the water pipes. Advice is needed on how to go about this. I now have a combi boiler and so there is no longer a immersion heather to conect all of the bonded pipes to. Any answers would be appreciated. Please ask if more info is needed.

Hi triplewhammy, sounds like you been very busy, BUT, as for cross bonding the water pipes this is no longer a diy, job, in fact it is illegal to do it yourself unless you have notified the local council, legally you need to call out a sparky that is registered for part P of the building regs, i know it sounds stupid, but that is how it is, if you do carry out the work yourself and something does go wrong, you will be liable so think carefully, the penalties are now quite harsh, sorry for bringing the bad news to you,Ray

Having looked at this in more detail i notice that there appear to be a lot of bathrooms/kitchens that have not had the water pipes / rads cross bonded at all. what is the legal posistion on not undertaking this do know?

Hi again, there are thousands of properties in Britain, that do not have been brought up to the current regs,the only time it comes to light is when any work is done in the property, so as for the legal side I do not know, you sound pretty competant to me, so have a look at this link and see if it makes sense to you, if you have a metal bath obviously it is more important that this is done, also some properties now have amixture of copper and plastic pipes, it gets very difficult at times,but if you are in any doubt call in a local sparky, he will give you advice on wht steps to take, good luck, Ray

Hey Triplewhammy, Raysparx1 is right. You will need to notify the local council if you want to do the cross bonding job yourself. It is considered illegal. You will have to get it done by experts, cos if you go wrong somewhere, you might regret.
