Should we pay her more?
50 Answers
We have a cleaner who comes every week for 5 hours. She is so pleasant, always cheerful and doesn't just clean but irons our clothes and washes the dishes etc. She is from Romania originally and is trying to make ends meat here in the UK. I asked my girlfriends how much she pays her per hour and my gf said she gets 5:50 per hour (which is the minimum wage and more then the average Eastern European immigrant gets). However I think she should get more. She is so lovely and works her socks off every hour she is in our house. Never taking a nap or coffee break. What do you think?

Yes I mean if my gf was on an average wage I wouldn't mind so much but she's very comfortable (250,000k p.a) and it would be nothing to her and like you have said 5.50 is very cheap her hour. Then again it's not really my house,it's my gf's so don't want to really get involved.I think that my gf and I should be understanding because we both have come to this country from Eastern Europe albeit in much more favourable circumstances
My cleaner costs 8 an hour! But a portion of that goes to the agency she works for so I'm not sure what she actually ends up getting. I always tidy before she comes, make sure there is no washing up so all she does really is hoover and dusting. If yours is there for 5 hours I would def give her a coffee break! Sit her down for 20 mins and have a chat. And a biscuit. She will appreciate that and I'm sure it will make her work harder after having had a break.
P.S. I'm only going on what my friend pays her cleaner. She does 6 hours a week @ 7.00per hour & she's quite happy with that - at the moment.
I personally wouldn't want to clean anyones house for less than a tenner per hour, but it isn't me & what I mentioned previously seems to be the going rate around here.
