wasps in the loft

I have wasps flying in ant out of my loft space, there is no access to the loft space as it is over an extension. If I fill in the hole in the eaves that they are using, is that a good idea or a bad idea?

dont know about that but the council will come and do what they have to to kill them off, for a small fee i think

They will be stuck in the loft space though won't they. I have no access to that loft space as it is over a one story extension. Will it matter if they're angry? (I know it will matter to THEM).

Thanks Panic Button. I thought my idea sounded too easy. But I've heard the council charge a fortune. Can I buy wasp poison that worker wasps will take and feed to queen wasps. Like the stuff you get for ants?

I'm sure you can, but the professionals use very powerful chemicals that knock em dead on contact.

My Mum once accidentally dug into a wasp nest and was attacked by an angry swarm. It can be fatal, so I advise extreme caution

The exterminater people won't be able to see or reach the wasps as there is just a small gap they are going in and out of. I don't know if they have a very thin hose they can squirt the gas through. Do they? They won't be able to aim at wasps as they won't be able to see them. Will that matter?

Get a tub of 'Doff' wasp-killer powder from your local hardware store and follow the instructions. When there are no more wasps, block up the hole. No problem.

The nest will be dead in a few weeks - if they are not causing a nuisance you may as well leave alone.

They never reuse a nest.

I had the same proplem a few years ago so I phoned my local council the lady was very helpful and gave me advice and 2 free wasp killer canisters. (I only needed to use 1) She told me to wait until the evening before using it as the wasps will be out during the day and come home about 19:00. Choose a dry calm day when the wasps will not be stuck indoors because of bad weather. I used a bicycle pump with flexible end to squirt the powder up into a tiny hole in the eaves where the wasps came in. You will need to have a quick getaway when you apply this stuff (as the wasps will be really upset with you) and a few days later seal the hole with clear silicone. I saw the canisters in B&Q for �0.50 - Nippon Ant Killer Powder made by Vitax Ltd. Be careful if up a ladder and wear plenty of clothes, gloves etc.
