Home decorating - what goes with purple?

Hi, hope someone can help with this. My son needs to spend his last year of Uni commuting from home. He's always had the smallest bedroom but now I want to move him into his sister's bigger room - she now lives away. The trouble is that her room has a good purple carpet that I can't afford to change. The decor is purple, lilac and lime green with silver accents. Sounds awful doesn't it but it was what she wanted at the time and it didn't look too bad. Now of course my 21 year old son needs the room. What colours will go with purple without looking feminine? Can anyone help please?

Thanks to you both for those prompt and helpful answers. I think I'll go with the grey and then I'll be able to keep the silver/chrome accents I already have.

Maybe try and get some grey rugs for the floor areas around the bed and furniture to try a de-puple it. Can you re-paint the walls? Can you paint furniture? Buy him lots of cheap picture frames - you can buy clippy ones with plastic transparent fronts cheap these days, then he can put stuff in the frames he likes and then cover possible girly wall decoration with them.

Paint the walls in a neutral colour , change the curtains ,
as I have just done the same thing , a throw on the bed ,It will look good .

I'd go for neutal walls - potentially white/off white & keep the chrome accessories i think...he cld get some tasteful prints/posters...

I would suggest you to place a Himalayan salt lamp in his room. Its not only beautiful and unique but also has so many healing and health benefits for mind and body. It will help in rejuvenating his energy and help in improving the sleep cycle.
