Hello everyone.
Ive just been inspired to ask if anyone knows any top tips on how to eliminate odours........

My downstairs bog has stank since we moved in.....i can only describe it as "old mans willys".
Its got new carpet in there, so couldnt have been weed on(but they had put that down so maybe), ive tried that neutradol carpet powder left on there for about a week then hoovered up (was quite unberable and perfumed but still with an underlying stench) and nothing seems to work.......not even bleach.....i dont actually know why it smells......

Is there anything i can put in there??

Could it be the actual toilet seat? Our bathroom stunk and after the millionth bottle of bleach I established that it wascoming from the seat! Duly bought a new one from Homebase, changed it and hey poncho, fresh as a daisy.
Hello, well I have never smelt an old mans willy, but it don't sound very nice, you could try what hippyhoppy says but if that doesn't work, I would lift the carpet and clean the floor underneath, is it a wooden floor ? if it is you may have to replace some of the boards before the smell goes, but it does sound as if it has been peed on over a long period of time, good luck, Ray
Have you disinfected the floor under the carpet?

im too scared to take the carpet up....i think its just concrete underneath tho....I could try the seat thing.....hmmmmm....i cant see where the old mans willy came from as there was no men living in the house before i bought it! Unless she had them to stay and locked them in the downstairs loo like a weird fetish thing!!!
this reminds me of when i replaced the flooring in my old flat - oh my god, then stench!

we ripped up the vinyl flooring, then the even older vinyl flooring under that, until we were back to bare boards. i had to cover my nose and mouth as i kept retching! once all removed we disinfected the floor and let it fully dry before laying new flooring. much better! i also agree with hippy that you might want to change the toilet seat as well (and carpet which is v. unhygienic in a bathroom)
Take up the carpet and if it's concrete scrub it with bleach let it dry out ,and think about a ceramic tiled floor easy to clean but things do not bounce off them !!
I too have this problem!!!!! I know that the previous occupants were both incontinent and assumed that they never quite made it to the loo. When I moved in I spread neat bleach on the floor and left it for a day. However, have carpeted over and it still smells! Mine is a concrete floor, built in the 50's and has sort of rubbery tiles well glued to the floor. I have been told to lift these although it will be difficult and then scrub and bleach the concrete. Can't summon up the energy to try this yet but will one day. Hope this helps.
Pirate you should take up those tiles as you will never get rid of the smell , think you have to melt the adhesive with a hot air gun and then scrape , scrape and scrape !! Worth it in the long run to be pong free .
Cheers! That sounds like good old hardwork! I'll have to see if I can bribe some one to do it for me, methinks!
I would definitely get rid of the carpet - they should be banned from use in loos anyway!
All of the above advice sounds good (from experience of moving into incredibly filthy pub living accommodation) but the final bit after everything else is to seal or varnish the floor to seal in the remaining smell. Good luck
