any ideas why my washing machine isn't emptying the detergent from the drawer during the cycle? it has said on the screen 'check outlet pipe' (or something like that), and i've had to restart it, but still no luck. i've just paid out for a plumber to replace my kitchen taps, could this be the problem or has the washer had it?

My guess is the jets are clogged. Get the drawer out, take it bits if you can and give it a good scrub. I use a bottle brush and soapy water.

Now clean inside the drawer cavity as far back as you can - the bottle brush is ideal. At the top of the drawer is a row of jets that let the water out. You need to poke these jets with a stiff but pliable bit of plastic - I use cable ties. Wipe the whole thing out with a mild bleach solution and put the drawer back in.

The outlet pipe gets the water from the machine to the drain - if there is a kink or other problem the machine won't empty.

Our washer would not empty properly, discovered a snail had crawled up the discharge pipe from the drain.
Use detergent tablets in future.
