I think my plumber and electrician were very much having to work side by side with the work they did for me, which was boiler heating shower, spotlights in kitchen and light fittings, wall switches etc, they were dependant on one doing one thing to enable the other to do his bit, i think this causes less delays or having to rip stuff up again, don't forget the plasterers too, though my plumber did replaster after putting the shower in .
Hi fluffy, well price might be slightly higher in south, but if i were you I would get a "Periodic report" on the condition of wiring, will cost approx 100-150 for this, are you happy with the amount of sockets already in the house ? it might just need earthing upgrading and new consumers unit (fuseboard) that would cost just a few hundred pound, the wiring from then will still be ok, it does not wear out, so get it checked first, good luck, Ray
fluffy if you see knobbynonuts or kpnonuts on here ask him to look at the wiring, he lives in essex and he is a sparky, he will hopefully be able to help you, also you should ask the fella that did report if he honestly thinks it needs rewiring or just upgrading,, he hasnt tried to get you to have it rewired so he sounds honest enough, and if i see knobbys name i will ask him to look.
sorry fluffy cross posted, if you have it done now you will never have to have it done again, it won't mean all the floorboards coming up just a few in each room, but the plumber will take a lot more up, if sockets are in wrong place and nowhere near enough of them then probably will be, but again if lighting is ok, you can just have sockets, cooker etc done and leave original lighting wires, and then fusboard would be changed anyway,, hope I am making sense here.
I had a new white box put in the wall behind the tv with fancy plugs that just reset as opposed to the old wire fuse things, very posh it is, with a see thru plastic lid. All the lights were rewired and the sockets and i had 15 ceiling spots put in the lowered ceiling when it was knocked thru into a 20foot kitchen. Then a had a new wall built to create a hallway right thru to the kitchen and had wall ligyhts put in it too, uplights actually. I paid the electrician in cash and i think it was very cheap because he did the work whilst he was doing another job elsewhere, I don;'t think it was more than 300, and he did all of that and provided the light switches and sockets.
