Hi dave,
Contact your local waste management and ask them to dispose of it for you.
They do collect it outside the home, inside if you are disabled. Costs vary but it is about 7 or 8.
Look under your Local Council Dept. Special collections. Payment must be made before uplift.
Our city council has a recycle website where you post things for people to collect for free. If that is any help, ours is www.blackpoolfreecycle.co.uk so you could try something along those lines.
If the bed is not worth passing on then usually the council will remove it for a small fee.
In my home area there are a few charities, e.g. British Heart Foundation and Hospice shops, which make free collections of furniture for renovation and resale. Beds may present a problem, however. Details are usually available in local free weekly papers. Worth trying.
Put it on Freecycle.

Phone your council. Our lifts things like this for free
In our area also, the British Heart Foundation will come and collect any usable furniture free which they sell off cheaply to those who can't afford to buy new. If you Google "British Heart Foundation Free Furniture Collection" (or something similar) you may be able to find if there is such a facility in your area. Also the Social Services Dept of your local Council might be able to take or, or some local papers have a "For Sale" section where you might be able to advertise it free, offering "double bed free to anybody who can collect it".
