transplanting a Mango Tree

Hello, we are moving and have a Mango tree which we planted in the garden about 3 years ago, it had it's first fruit last year, (just so beautifully delicious), we would like to take the tree to our new home, does anyone know if we will be successful in transplanting our tree, we really don't want to have to wait another 5 years or so to get fruit by buying another smaller tree.

Am not sure where you live - possibly not in the UK because I've never heard of a mango tree thriving here ?? Normally the best time to move an established tree is in late autumn after its leaves have fallen, but before the frost cools and hardens the ground. If you want to run the risk of moving it, the best way would probably be to dig a wide circle around it so that you can remove the tree intact with its complete root ball, and wrap the roots in sacking or hessian to keep them moist.
Then make it your first priority in your new home to get its new planting hole dug and replant it with plenty of good compost. Be sure to keep the roots well watered for the first year to stop them drying out and minimise any shock of moving.
