Mary Barnard was my great aunt and was extremely well known in flower arrangement circles. I believe she was chair of a UK floral arrangement society and I remember she spoke at national events back in the 1950s/1960s. The rose was developed as I understand it (bought some from there for my own mother) at a rose development centre at Almondsbury near Bristol. I know it's just up the road from the Almondsbury Garden Centre. My uncle was a keen rose grower and he bought one first and then advised us where to get their aunt's rose.
Mary Barnard was known within family circles as Biddy.

Hi Paul
Yes we are cousins - Juliet's father was my Mum's first cousin. I think therefore we are first cousins once removed if I can work it out properly. If I remember correctly Juliet's parents and her sibling/s all had first names beginning with J. My Mum was Doreen Spencer before she married my father and became Doreen Davy.
