Radiators

If I turn the upstairs radiators and a couple downstairs off,the radiator that I want to heat up more downstairs gets hotter.How can I tell which one is taking the heat.
Also should the TVRs be on the hot or cold feed pipe.
I recently had a combi fitted upstairs and I think the water is flowing differently ,as previously the boiler was down.
Any clues please

1st thing is (if not done it) bleed all radiators - then close one at a time this should show you. The tvr bit - not sure

I think most TVR have a directional arrow on the body of the valve, most cheaper or older valves should be on the hot feed. I've got Draytons and they can be fitted either side.

Agree with SlackAlice about the TRV valves. You can tell which way the flow of the water is by feeling the pipes each end - which end is hotter? - then see whether this is contrary to any arrows on the TRVs themselves. They won't work if single direction and connected up the wrong way.
If you are saying that, with all TRVs open, one or two rads just don't get hot at all this suggests the system needs balancing (not bleeding). Explanation on how to do that is here.
