Last night I lit three candles and read a book. They all burned down and made a muckle great wax puddle on my hairy... carpet. What do I do?! Chip it off? Hold a lighter over it to melt it, then scrub like hell? It's not even my carpet to obliterate, I'm only renting. The room, not the carpet.

Hi IndieSinger. I'm no expert but I seem to remember you should use an iron (on a coolish setting I guess) and some absorbent material like paper. I think brown paper would be best but you don't see it often these days. Perhaps tissue or even newspaper would do. Then iron the carpet through the material or paper and the wax will melt and be absorbed by the material. I can't vouch for this, but it does sound better than a lighter! Good luck, and do let us know what happens.
Then pay your electricity bill.

But electric lights don't smell of cinamon, green apple or coffee!

I've worked out the best way to get rid of it anyway. Just before the inspection when I move out and hand my keys back, I will move the desk forward a foot.
The ironing method is a little more complicated - use paper towels on what's left of the wax, put a cloth over that & iron wih no steam. Change paper towels and repeat as often as it takes, then gently clean ithe area. (Better not clean too much, I suspect the carpet is grubby and you'll end up with one clean patch!).

I can assure you, Janetex, that my big, brown (and now wax-covered) hairy patch is spotlessly clean.
Brown paper is easy to come by, I have a shop full of it, it's called W R A P P I N G - P A P E R, you could even try a large manila envelope. Most stationers sell both by the shedload. Why you want your room to smell like a tarts boudoir is beyond me anyway
Well indie you do seem to have an eventful life ,hair fashion now interior designing ! all joking aside scrape as much wax away with a blunt knife then rub ice cubes on the remaining wax unless of course you've tried rubbing it out ,then a trip to carpet right may be needed or put a rug over it!

Yes; I am in fact Lawrence Llewellen-Bowen.
moving the desk over sounds like the best plan... cinamon, green apple and coffee all at once!? - ewwwww!
postie - because he is a tart (and i should know)
Smash a window, hide a few things, mess up the room and say that you have been burgled. Then you can blame it on the burglar.
Yes, a burglar who likes to burn candles.
