Is there any way I can recycle the ashes from our solid fuel (and wood) fire around the garden? My old dad used to put soot from cleaning the chimney on our clay soil to help break it down, so I thought there may be a way to use our ashes.
If I cant use them in the garden has anybody any other suggestions please.

Yes, ash will be very good on the garden full of minerals for the plants. Any bigger bits could be used to put around plant to stop slugs and snails.
