Over the years we've always tried to keep our washing machines going, but I do think it's probably a problem with the circuit board, and therefore nothing you could fix yourself. If I were you I would do as much handwashing as necessary and use the spin cycle to ease the burden until you can get a repair man out. These days the things only seem to be made to last 5 years, so having got 7 out of it is good going. I got that fed up with average machines breaking down on me that I went and spent a fortune on a Miele. Apparently if I use it once a day it could last 20 years - I'm banking on 10 the way I hammer it, but so far it is well worth the extra money.
