I heard somewhere recently that in the future we will have a entirely new way of lighting our homes by LED and doing away with the conventional bulbs. Has anyone heard about this also, or was I dreaming?
LEDs are available now that are about 100x brighter than when I first remember them over 20 yrs ago. And with clever matrixing, displays are becoming brighter. It will come but there's a long way to go yet.
Wasn't it the US Government that said in about 1960 that there would only ever be a need for half a dozen computers in the country? Mind you, they were as big as houses then.
It's been in the news lately. They've found at Glasgow University that they can use a nano-imprint lithography process that etches microscopic holes into the surface of the LED, thus allowing many more times the usual amount of light to be emitted.
Mr Spudqueen is currently working on a project that will hopefully have all buildings (work places and homes) lit by LED in the near future. As he is currently working on some patents can't say too much at the moment, but watch this space!
