We moved into a new buildhouse and two of the lights in the porch and landing were fitted with energy saving lights (the complete fitting not just the bulb). Apparently it is a standard regulation to have a certain number in a new house. The only problem is it seems that this means that regular lampshades do not fit these fittings as there is no screw part to attach the shade? I have looked everywhere - does anybody know the type that i need?

I do not believe this is possible, Lyn, and this part of the new Building Regs (designed to save energy in the UK) doesn't seem to be have been thought out.
Although it is technically defeating the very purpose of the Regs, the only solution I know of is to change the pendent. New ones should you about 1 each.
By doing this, one is making the house in minor breach of Building Regs, so just keep the old fitting and change them back before you leave. You do not need to be a qualified electrician to change a light pendent fitting
I'd do as buildersmate has suggested and change the fitting; although I wouldn't change them back before moving. ......Happy New Year....Ron
Try online at www.ecocentric.co.uk, I also have looked everywhere, these seem to be the best.
I had exactly the same problem. The only solution was, as suggested, to change the fitting. It only took half an hour and now I can have whatever shades I want. I also found I had trouble getting the right bulbs to fit - they weren't standard and I had to get them by mail order cos they weren't stocked in the supermarkets (the builder had very kindly not put a bulb in the room with the energy saving pendant!)

We have the answer!
Check out tp24 lighting - sell a low energy pendant of regular size, any standard shade will fit.
Now being specified by major uk builders - let's keep the low energy fittings installed as required.
