Ideal classic boiler, flue help
3 Answers
Hi all :-)
i want to put a conservatory in my garden but i've been told my flue is too close. (i have a small house).
I've been told it might be possible to add a pipe that takes the flue gas further away. It needs to be at least another foot away. Does anybody know if this is possible with my type of boiler? i.e. is the fan powerful enough to blow the gases further and also, does anyone know where i can get such a pipe etc? i have an 'Ideal Classic' boiler.
Any help or alternative suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks for reading this.

flueing is quite a complex issue with many regulations to adhere to.
most fan flued boilers can normally have a flue of up to 3mts in length, this length is reduced by the number of bends that are needed.
increasing the length of your flue would be the cheapest option if its possible, alternatively you could re-site the boiler at greater expense.

I had a look at the Ideal Classic manual for the specifics on this boiler. The max flue length is 3m on all models, with a 90 degree bend needing an allowance of 1.5m effective flue length. This means you have 1.5m to play with in length - assuming you've got to turn through 90 someone to solve this problem.
That should at least tell you whether this is technically feasible.
Ideal sells a flue extension kit to do this sort of thing - ask at a plumbers' merchant.
