CCTV on domestic premises

We have been having problems with neighbours and want to install CCTV at our home which is a first floor flat as we have experienced criminal damage and nuisance on the land at the front and side of the property (a semi-detached house) I guess i will need the freeholders permission to attach any cameras to the outside walls and i have written to them to ask for this.

any images would be exempt from the data protection act as its a domestic residence but can anyone confirm whether i still need to display signs stating that the premises are monitored by CCTV and any other matters i need to worry about?

i believe you do. My mum and dad have CCTV on their on their property and have put up small signs in the window at each entrance. Speak the installers you get a quote from, they'll steer you right.
