I have a two year old DC08 which is used regularly to hoover up after my three beautiful long haired cats. It has recently started smelling, so I have washed it all as per the manufacturers instructions (including pre-filters etc and allowing plently of time to dry before reassembling), but it is still a bit smelly. I do not wish to put one of those floral fragranced smelly things in my machine as I do not wish to mask the smell. Does anybody have any ideas as to how I might be able to resolve my annoying pong issue? TIA.

Get rid of the cats
I would break it down even further ... wash the tubes, hoses, all the blockage points that cna be removed and take of the beater bar too ... then I would let it all dry and sprinkle out a pot of bicarb of soda les than 50p a pot in the supermarkets. To neutralise anywhere that was not easily washable.
put some smelly stuff,ie what you may use in an oil burner lavender ,vanilla etc on to a cotton ball, and put nto dirt collecting compartment, should keep it smelling a lot better.
Agree with Sense & Geoff. I have a Vax, which I much prefer to the Dyson, and which does a wonderful job. With so many animals trotting in and out though, the poor cleaner can get a bit pongy, so I do the above, and hey ho - now it smells nice!
could be the / a belt slipping and causing a burning / rubber type smell ... ? clean the agitator bar and remove if possible ... hairs / fluff normally get into the end supports and that can rub / get hot and cause a burning / singed hair type smell as well ...
