Dylon washing machine dye - any good?

Sorry if this is the wrong section.
Have just machine washed a jacket and followed instructions to the letter as it was the first wash.
Gone completely wrong as there are now white patches all over my lovely grey jacket!!!
The only remedy I can think of is the Dylon - but am a bit worried about putting dye in my washing machine- has anyone used this and is it any good please?

Dyeing this won't mask the bleached-out bits Chick. Take it back to whence you purchased it and show them what happened when you follwed the instructions. Sale of goods act covers you. Likelihood is they have had a whole lot of returns of same item and you should at least be entitled to like-for-like exchange or credit note. Most retailers will settle for cash refund.

If I was you, I would take the jacket back because if you followed the instructions, it should not have patches. I havent personally used Dylon myself but know of other that have and they havent had problems. If the jacket is lightweight and small, you may be able to use a cold water dye instead if you are worried about messing your machine up.

Thanks for your answers. Unfortunately, this jacket is over a year old, bought late 2006. Its been in storage quite a bit of that time though. Do you think I will still be able to take it back? I was thinking of ringing their Customer Service line - bought from Debenhams.

I don't know about it covering up white patches but I have used Dylon a few times and the washing machine hasn't come to any harm, I just make sure I do 2 cycles with nothing in it before I start washing clothes again!

I am unsure if the dye will cover evenly given there are white patches. You may need to strip all the colour first and then apply the colour you want.

I have used Dylon on numerous occasions. If you follow the instructions for use, once you have finished you can put a white wash in without any transference of colour

I don't think you will have much chance of returning it, but ringing Customer Services is always worth a try.
Agree with others that Dylon is pretty good and doesn't harm the washing machine at all. It definitely doesn't cover bleach splashes, though, so probably won't cover your white patches.
You can get products (forgotten what they're called) to remove all the colour from garments, then you can dye them again. i've never had the courage to try this. Also tend to think that taking all the colour out then re-dyeing would take an awful lot of 'body' out ofthe garment.

Dylon is good but doesn't work on polyester or nylon so if the seams in jacket are done with either of these they will stay their original colour. As I found out when I dyed a pale grey jacket black.

Can anyone help? I have used the Dylon stuff in my washing machine. I have followed all of the instructions, including running the machine empty, but 5 washes later my clothes are still being ruined. Does anyone have hints please?
