I hate gardening and forget to water anything.
We have a little back and front garden. What can I do now to make them pretty?
What do I look for in the garden centre?
Honestly I am clueless.
Oh and can I grow tomatoes this year? I tried and failed before; are they a lot of work?

If you don't really care for gardening, could you grass the areas and then stand some trees in pots against a wall, or plant a small cherry tree on the lawn? The blossom looks beautiful. Shrubs such as camelias also look wonderful. We have some which were just left to grow, and over the years they've turned into lovely bushes which flower in profusion. Some people might suggest paving your garden area, and then dotting potted plants about, but it's not much help to the environment - x

I am like you! I paved parts of my garden and put gravel down on the rest. I have borders that have these hardy shrubs- what are they called... small bushes that flower purple .. heebees? Or did I make that up? I also have some small fir trees as they are quite tough. The best thing is a lily that I planted years ago and is now massive! I never water it and it just grows and grows. I also have a few plants in pots- spiky ones seem to last! I would avoid buying anything that looks pretty and delicate, and go for bushes that flower, ferns, firs... Have a look at these pics and choose what you like. Then go to the garden centre and ask them if they are tough and likely to survive with minimal care!

you can create a fantastic virtually zero maintainence garden. head to the decorative grasses section of your local garden centre and buy a range of grasses in different sizes and colour and shapes, you can get golds, greens, yellows, blues, reds even black. if you've got room throw a couple of the black and golden bamboos that the large b and q's always sell. plant the grasses and then all round them spread some purple slate chippings to stop any weeds coming through and for extra decoration.
