council house improvements..where do i stand?

Hi, please can anyone tell me if I have any rights trying to claim any sort of compensation for all the home improvements I have made to my council house? I have lived there for nearly 14yr and unfortunately have to leave. I was going to purchase the property so did not get planning permission.

I doubt if you could claim compensation for the work you have done. I would imagine that once you leave the property, the council will put the house back to the way it was. This happened when I left a council property, even though I had asked permisson to do the alterations!

you might even have to pay to return the house to its original condition, especially if you didnt have permission to do any work

Not clear why you thought you didn't need Planning Permission (or more likely Building Regs approval) for modifications you did just because you thought you were buying it. The requirements apply to any type of property ownership / lease arrangement / rental.

And according to your other post your kitchen was never finished so they may even ask you to 'make good' as far as that is concerned before you leave
