I've had some bad experiences with IKEA stuff recently....bedding fading in the wash....buttons coming off duvet covers...saucepan handles coming off.

Is it me or is it all third world produced tat?

I have bought wardrobes, wall units, crockery and various lights and have never had any problems. Also, when I have had items delivered they arrived on time and they contact you before delivery to confirm. Perhaps you have just been unlucky.
You tend to get what you pay for with most things. You wont get top quality at the cheap end of the market.
I worked for Ikea for 3 yrs during my student life (approx 2001) and they only had a 10% return/refund and exchange ratio which is blooming excelllent.

Some of their stuff (bed slats) are recycled and you can see where they are joined together. these do tend to fail, but most of their items are durable and are tested thoroughly.

Saucepan handles, yes Ikea saucepans are renound for this failure!

I have many Ikea stories!
I have never shopped in IKEA. Some people love it, but I have never thought about shopping there.
They have got some good buys, but i would say that 50% of what they sell is junk.
They have got more and more expensive as they got more successful. Now I think they can be quite pricey and you can buy the same stuff in Ikeas in other countries for cheaper.
They even cheapened the hot dogs and changed to cheap unknown ketchup a couple of years back.
Typical of many companies, they can get away with it so they do. Decided to make it just a once a year visit now and not come out of there having spent a fortune on a load of c**p.
My two sisters go once or twice a year and spend hours in there. I was in the Newcastle store yesterday and I thought what I always have done, it's a load of cr*p! I can't think why people rave about it.
